The Art of Gilding

The Art of Gilding is one of the most intriguing decorative techniques, as well as one of the oldest. Emerging more than 4000 years ago in Northern Africa and developed through the centuries, it has presented us with numerous objects of art and craft that require restoration. Little has varied from the gilding techniques used centuries ago, allowing us to preserve and restore to its previous magnificent condition.

We at Gilt Mill dedicate ourselves using this traditional technique of applying gold or silver leaf to restore, conserve or reproduce fine furniture, frames and interiors.

Gilding restoration

Repairs and restores damaged furniture by reproducing missing decorative details or restoring deteriorated gesso. The objective is to conserve original materials and to match the original technique used in the construction of the piece.
